617 Shawmut Avenue – South EndOn Saturday, July 4, 2009, at approximately 2:15pm, officers assigned to Area D-4 (South End), responded to 617 Shawmut Avenue for a report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on-scene and located a large group standing over a male lying on the ground. Officers and Boston EMS rendered care to the individual who was apparently suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. It was later learned that the victim was a Twenty-four year-old black male.
Several witnesses on-scene were interviewed as to their observations of the incident.
The victim was transported by Boston EMS to Boston Medical Center where he was later pronounced.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the facts and circumstances of this incident. This marks the City’s Twenty-Sixth homicide of 2009. This time last year, Boston experienced Thirty-Two homicides.
