This afternoon around 4:20PM, a Boston Police officer performing a detail in the area of 5 Austin Street in Charlestown observed a black Lincoln Towncar travelling on Austin Street toward Main Street. The officer immediately recognized the car as the one that had been broadcast around 3:15PM as having been involved in a bank robbery in Somerville. The officer radioed and requested the previously broadcast plate of the car from Operations and received confirmation that the car was the same one that had been involved in the bank robbery.The detail officer pursued the car on foot while updating fellow officers of the car and was able to catch up to the car due to the fact that it stopped at a red light. The officer approached the driver’s side door of the car, which had three passengers, just as fellow officers were pulling up. The detail officer then ordered the driver to stop the car and put up his hands. The driver followed the officer’s orders but the front passenger failed to heed the officer’s orders and fled from the car. The initial detail officer assisted by another nearby detail officer pursued the passenger suspect through several parking lots, across a couple streets, and over a few fences before apprehending the suspect at gunpoint.
Three suspects, James RIGANO, 42, of Malden, Terry DUNNELS, Jr., 29, of Cambridge, and Eric LEONARD, 20, of Everett were arrested and turned over to Somerville Police who then charged them with Bank Robbery. The three suspects are expected to be arraigned at Somerville District Court tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1, 2009.
