BPD Investigates Theft of Donation Box Money at Saint Anthony’s ShrineOn Sunday, June 21, 2009, at approximately 11:28pm, Officers assigned to Area A-1 (Downtown), responded to Saint Anthony’s Shrine, 100 Arch Street, Boston, for a report of a larceny.
Upon officers’ arrival, they spoke with church custodians who informed them that they observed an unknown male steal an unknown amount of money from the wooden donation box that is located in the main chapel’s first floor. A later inspection of the box showed the bottom panel to be broken from its hinges. The suspect is described as a thin white male wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The custodians immediately reported the incident to the security officer who confronted the suspect and escorted him out of the building onto Arch Street. The suspect left the area before the arrival of BPD officers.

Boyfriend Arrested for Punching and Assaulting Girlfriend with Firearm
On Monday, June 22, 2009, at approximately 10:07am, officers assigned to Area B-3 (Mattapan), responded to the area of River Street for a report of a possible domestic incident.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a female victim who stated she was walking in the area of River Street when she was approached by her boyfriend and punched in the face. She went on to state that she then began walking home in order to phone the police when her boyfriend pulled up next to her and pointed a silver handgun at her. She then went into the house and called the police.
The victim was able to supply officers with the suspect’s information and a description of the vehicle he was operating. Officers then broadcast this information out over the radio. A short time later, an officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Blue Hill Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop. A computer check through the Registry of Motor Vehicles showed the suspects license to operate a motor vehicle had been suspended. The suspect was identified and placed into custody. During the booking process, an amount of crack cocaine was located in the suspect’s front pants pocket.
Officers arrested David Fernandes, 47, of Boston on the charges of Operating after License Suspension, Possession of a Class B Substance (crack cocaine), Domestic Assault & Battery and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (gun).
