Around 2PM today, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested suspect, Frantz Germain, 27, of Boston and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Class B, Possession of Class D and outstanding warrants for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed, Resisting Arrest, Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.Officers were alerted by a detective around 2PM that the suspect, who had several outstanding warrants, was observed in the Mattapan Square area in the Farmer’s Market parking lot. Officers were also alerted to the suspect’s propensity for violence/resisting arrest and the possibility that the suspect may be armed with a firearm.
Armed with the above information and given further information that the suspect had just gotten into the passenger side of a blue Chevy, officers observed the car and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Cummins Hwy and River Street. As officers exited their car to approach the suspect motor vehicle, the suspect who was seated in the rear passenger seat opened his door and got out of the car. Based on the information officers had received they directed the suspect to put his hands in plain view, the suspect however ignored officers’ orders and fled on foot.
One officer pursued the fleeing suspect, while the other detained the remaining occupants of the car. Numerous other officers responded to the scene and were able to catch and detain the fleeing suspect after a brief foot chase. Once in custody, officers observed that the suspect had a wad of money in one hand, and a black nylon piece of material with a ripped plastic bag. Once arrested, officers found two off white rocks substances determined to be crack cocaine in the plastic bag. Further pat frisk of the suspect revealed him to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm.
Once at the booking desk, based on the suspect’s continued attempt to reach into the front waistband of his pants, officers conducted a search and found a plastic bag containing marijuana leading to further charge of Possession of Class D.
The suspect will be arraigned at Dorchester District Court tomorrow morning, June 18, 2009.
