The mission of the Ron Burton Training Village is to teach, educate and provide young people life lessons and understanding about the importance of racial harmony, leadership, self determination, respect and love for others. The kids are taught and encouraged never to swear or use harsh language. Additionally, the kids are educated about the dangers of drinking, smoking and illegal drug use.The retreat was coordinated and facilitated by the officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan). The young people who attended were selected from the Franklin Field Housing Development. All who showed an interest in attending were accepted. No one was turned away or left behind.
Upon arriving at the Village, the kids were welcomed and greeted warmly by Ron Burton Jr. (the son of Ron Burton). Over the next couple of days, the kids enjoyed an activity filled weekend, including everything from running, roasting marshmallows, watching movies, eating ice cream and playing ping pong.
In addition to being grateful to those who made the opportunity possible, all those who attended the retreat thoroughly enjoyed and will not soon forget the weekend spent at the Ron Burton Training Village.
