While en-route, Officers received updated information that one of the individuals was in a parking lot off of Washington Street. While doing so, three other individuals approached officers, inquiring as to the suspects’ status. Officers believed these men were the people involved in the fight at Club Mantra.
Officers recognized one of the suspects as being involved in previous gun-related incidents in the past. DETAIL OFFICER AIDS IN THE ARREST OF A PURSE GRABBER IN THE SOUTH END
At about 10:30am, on Thursday, April 16, 2009, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress in the area of 288 Newbury Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that she had left or hung her purse on the back of her chair inside the Expresso Royale. While sitting in her chair, the victim says she observed a black male (approximately 6\’ft tall, about 40 years of age, wearing a brown vest, tan pants) exit the store while carrying her beige purse. Victim says she then observed the suspect enter a motor vehicle and flee the scene. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect and the suspect’s motor vehicle over the police radio.
In short time, an officer performing a paid detail, in the area of Mass Ave and Washington Street, located the suspect’s motor vehicle parked illegally in a bus stop. As the detail officer was approaching the car, the officer observed the suspect rummaging through a bag. Upon reaching the motor vehicle, the officer asked the suspect to produce a license and registration. Officer further observed that the suspect appeared to be nervous due to the fact that his hands were shaking. Officer then observed a beige purse and personal papers strewn about the front seat of the motor vehicle. The purse matched the description of the one belonging to the victim. Upon closer inspection of the papers and the purse, officers were able to determine that the purse belonged to the victim.
After the suspect was positively identified by the victim, officers arrested Hakim Williams, 50, of Boston and charged him with Larceny and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.
