DAILY INCIDENTS FOR THURSDAY, MARCH 5, 2009

Suspect Pulls knife on Store ClerkOn Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at approximately 9:09pm, Officers assigned to Area B-3 (Mattapan), responded to the Mattapan Mobile Mart on 783 Blue Hill Avenue for a report of a man with a knife.
Upon officer’s arrival, they met with the clerk / victim who informed them that a Black Male, wearing beige pants & coat, entered the store and became enraged. The suspect had words with the manager and slammed a metal draw on the clerk’s hand before running from the store. The clerk gave chase and confronted the suspect outside. The suspect then removed a knife and swung it at the clerk. The clerk then ran inside and phoned the police. No injuries were sustained as a result of the assault.
Officers broadcast a description of the suspect and located an individual fitting the description shortly thereafter in the area of Blue Hill Avenue. The suspect was confronted and he admitted to being in the Mobile Mart and having a problem with the clerk. The officers then conducted a pat-frisk of the suspect and located a black butterfly knife on him.
The suspect was then transported to the Mattapan Mobile Mart in order to conduct an identification. The victim was able to identify him as the perpetrator.
Officers arrested Julio Benitez Melendez, 32 of Boston on the charges of Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (draw) and Trespassing.
Vigilant Neighbor Assists Police in Apprehending Thief
On Thursday, March 5, 2009, at approximately 2:05am, Officers assigned to Area D-4 (South End), responded to the area of 221 Massachusetts Avenue for a report of a male breaking into cars.
Upon arrival, officers met with a neighbor of the general area that informed them that a black male, wearing a gray coat with a white hood, broke into a Grey Volkswagen as it sat parked on Edgerly Road. The witness approached the suspect while he was rummaging through the vehicle and confronted him. The suspect then fled in the direction of Massachusetts Avenue.
Officers broadcast a description of the suspect and a similar looking individual was located on Belvidere Street. The suspect was transported back to the scene and the witness positively identified him as the perpetrator.
Officers arrested Marc Aaron Ross, 35, of Boston on the charges of Breaking & Entering Motor Vehicle (night).
