INVESTIGATORS SEEK PUBLICASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY ARSON SUSPECT
Up To $5000 Reward Offered For Information
The Boston Police Department in conjunction with the Boston Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are seeking the public’s assistance to identify an individual wanted in connection with an incident that took place on Sigourney Street in Jamaica Plain on February 7, 2008. In addition to the Sigourney Street incident, detectives are investigating the possibility of a connection to two other recent incidents in the area. Those incidents are detailed below.
On February 7, 2009 at 4:42am, officers responded to a radio call for a house fire at 22 Sigourney Street. Upon arrival officers observed the front of 20,22,22 1/2 Sigourney St. fully involved in fire. A victim stated that she was awaken by the sound of her smoke alarm and left the building after alerting the 911 system. Additional victims from the effected residences were able to safely evacuate without injury. At this time, the investigation has revealed that the fire is incendiary in nature. The following surveillance footage was obtained by investigators.
Additional Incident Descriptions:
• On January 6th, 2009 at 4:06am a radio call was announced that a building fire had started at 142 South Street. It was confirmed that a building fire had started at 138 South Street. On arrival, officers observed the front of Maria\’s Hair Salon and Spa to be engulfed in flames. The Boston Fire Department extinguished the fire and at 5:06am the \”All out command\” was given and the crime scene was taped off. At this time, the Fire Investigation Unit was dispatched to the building fire and determined the fire to be incendiary in nature.
• On January 28, 2009 at 3:27am, an officer pulled into the District E13 parking lot and observed a large cloud of smoke in the Egleston Square area. The officer proceeded to 111 School Street and observed a detached house fully engulfed. Emergency responders cleared the house while notifying 911. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Damages are estimated at $300,000 and the cause of the fire appears incendiary and is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit.
The Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriters Association is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person for this incident.
