Incident Involved Officer Firearm DischargeOn Thursday, February 26, 2009, at approximately 10:25am, an officer assigned to B-2 (Roxbury), was traveling in the area of Warren Street when a Black Mercury Mountaineer passed by with a loud muffler. The officer then conducted an RMV check on the plate and discovered it was possibly registered to another vehicle.
The officer followed the vehicle and observed it park in the area of Crawford Street. The officer approached the vehicle and asked the operator for his license and registration. An additional RMV check showed the operator’s license had been suspended.
The operator was removed from the vehicle and a pat frisk was conducted. As a result, an amount of marijuana was located in the suspect’s pocket. Additional BPD officers arrived on-scene in order to assist in placing the suspect into custody. While attempting to do so, the suspect resisted and fled. The suspect fled on foot, jumping fences and cutting through several yards in the area of Homestead Street.
A description of the suspect was broadcast and numerous BPD officers conducted a search the area. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was spotted on Brunswick Street and apprehended.
During the pursuit, an officer discharged his department-issued firearm. No one was injured as a result and the discharge appears to be unintentional. The Boston Police Firearm Discharge Team is investigating the incident.
Officers located several bags of Marijuana from the suspect’s vehicle. Police arrested Jamal Jackson, 32, of Boston on the charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Class D Substance (Marijuana) With Intent To Distribute & Possession of a Class D Substance With Intent To Distribute Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone.
