Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested at HomeYesterday afternoon around 2:36PM, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) responded to 113 H Street in South Boston/Jamie’s Variety Store for a person with a knife.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who reported that he had just been robbed at knifepoint. The victim elaborated by telling officers that the suspect (described as a white non-Hispanic male, approximately 6’00” tall, about 25-50 years old wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt) walked in to the store and asked to purchase a box of cigarettes. The victim further reported that when he was ringing up the cigarettes, the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded, “Give me all the money you got!” The victim reported that he gave the suspect a sum of money after the suspect fled out of the store. The victim trailed the suspect and observed him get into a car in a nearby parking lot and flee the scene at a high rate of speed, but not before the victim got the plate number off of the car. A witness located by officers gave a similar description of the suspect and his car.
Based on the plate number given by the victim and witness, officers responded to the address where the car was registered. There, officers were allowed to enter by a female and immediately upon entering the apartment, officers observed a male matching the suspect description. During a brief conversation with the male matching the suspect description, officers observed his breathing to be elevated, and his answers to basic questions to be unclear with some level of panic.
Officers having explained their purpose, then transported the individual matching the suspect description to the scene of the crime to see if the victim and witness could identify him as the suspect. On arrival at the scene, both witness and victim were given instructions on the identification process before the suspect was shown to them. The suspect was then shown to both the victim and witness, both of whom positively identified him as the perpetrator of the armed robbery. The suspect, Jason Battles, 33, of South Boston was then arrested and charged with Armed Robbery of a Business.
Graffiti Vandal Arrested after Defacing Restaurant Bathroom
Yesterday evening around 5:45PM, officers from District D-4 and Special Operations motorcycle officers arrested suspect, Isaac S. White, 28, of Jamaica Plain and charged him Malicious Destruction of Property, and an outstanding warrant for Defacement of Property issued out of Roxbury District Court.
Officers initially responded to a radio call for a disturbance at The Other Side Café located at 407 Newbury Street. On arrival, officers poke to the restaurant manager who reported that the suspect defaced the bathroom walls in the restaurant and when confronted threw a pint glass at the wall. Officers then learned that several witnesses had heard scratching sounds from the bathroom, and when they went in there observed the suspect exiting the bathroom with fresh scratches and graffiti on the wall. The suspect was then approached by restaurant employees who asked him to leave the restaurant. The suspect, when asked to leave, responded by throwing a pint glass against the wall and had to be escorted out of the restaurant but not without a struggle resulting in an employee sustaining an injury.
Another employee followed the suspect and a short distance from the scene flagged down an officer who was able to catch up with the suspect in an alley behind 135 Massachusetts Avenue. The suspect was then placed under arrest for Malicious Destruction of Property, and subsequently determined to have an outstanding warrant for Defacement of Property.
Suspect Apprehended while Fleeing the Scene of an Accident
This morning around 2:25AM, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of 800 Blue Hill Ave. when they observed a vehicle traveling a at a high rate of speed hit another vehicle in the bumper causing damage to the vehicle.
The speeding vehicle after hitting the other car accelerated and attempted to flee the scene. Officers followed the speeding vehicle with lights and sirens and attempted to stop it. The suspect motor vehicle failed to stop for officers continuing to flee through several streets until it came back out onto American Legion Highway. Near the intersection of American Legion Hwy. and Franklin Hill Avenue, the suspect motor vehicle came to an abrupt stop. Officers then approached the operator, Nicolas J. Guerrero, 20, of Hyde Park and placed him under arrest for Driving to Endanger, Failure to Stop for Police and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Property Damage.
Had the suspect stopped after the accident, he would have only had to exchange paperwork with the other car and at most been cited for Speeding.
