Boston Police Warn of “Drive-Off” Vehicle TheftsThe Boston Police Department would like to take this opportunity to inform community members of recent “drive off” vehicle thefts. Since January 1, 2008 there have been approximately 13 incidents where a vehicle was stolen after being left unattended and running for a period of time. Officers have made several arrests in these incidents, but would like to urge community members to always be vigilant of their property.
***Please always take the proper safety precautions and do not leave your vehicle unattended, unlocked and running. If you are warming up your vehicle in the cold weather, be sure to find a way to keep it locked simultaneously when unattended.
Recent Incident Descriptions:
• On January 24, 2009, at 8:45pm, a victim reported that his 2001 green Land Rover Discovery was stolen while he was warming it up for a few minutes in front of 600 Columbia Road in Roxbury. On January 25, 2009 at approximately 8:25pm, officers arrested two juveniles ages 14 and 16 for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle in the area of Eustis Street.
• On January 20, 2009, at approximately 2:00pm, a victim reported that his grey 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser was stolen when he left it running for fifteen minutes outside 330 King Bl. On January 24, 2009 at approximately 12:20pm, officers arrested Lisa McLean, 40, of Dorchester and Maurice Lord, 20, of Roxbury for Receiving a Stolen Vehicle.
• On January 15, 2009, at approximately 5:33am, a victim reported that she left her brown and green Ford Windstar running in her driveway in Dorchester while she went inside. When she returned, her vehicle was missing.
