SCHOOL YARD DISTURBANCE LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF DANGEROUS WEAPONSAt about 1:50pm, on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a possible fight between students in the area of Boston Latin Academy on Townsend Street. On arrival, officers were speaking to the students when they received information that the some of the kids may be armed with knives. While still on scene, officers learned that prior to the disturbance, a group of kids entered the nearby store and attempted to steal knives. Fearing the presence of weapons, officers conducted a pat frisk of several of the students. As a result of the pat frisk, officers found and recovered several knives on one of the suspects. Officers arrested Mason Chan, 17, of Boston and charged him with Unlawfully Carrying Dangerous Weapons.
ALMOST HITTING A POLICE CRUISER LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 6:16pm, on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Morton Street when they observed a red motor vehicle driving erratically. Specifically, officers observed the car drifting from one lane to the other. When officers attempted to pull up next to the car, the car almost hit the police cruiser. In fact, officers had to quickly apply their brakes to avoid a near collision. As a result of the near collision, officers activated their siren. Upon hearing the siren, the operator of the motor vehicle sped up and began to angrily gesture at the officers. At this point, officers activated lights and sirens and stopped the car. While speaking to the operator, officers noted that the operator appeared to be intoxicated given his inability to speak to the officers and the odor of alcohol emanating from his person. When asked if he had been drinking, the suspect stated, “I know I shouldn’t be driving.” After agreeing to take a field sobriety test, the suspect took the test and failed.
Officers arrested Dino Tavino, 54, of Boston and charged him with Operating Under the Influence (Alcohol). A search of the motor vehicle enabled officers to locate and take possession of two small bottles of alcohol.
POLICE ARREST ONE FOR ATTEMPTED BREAKING & ENTERING IN EASTIE
At about 12:19am, on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in the area of 137 Cottage Street. On arrival, officers observed a white male exiting the location while carrying a black bag. Officers asked the individual if he lived at the above location. To which, the suspect stated, “No.” While officers were speaking to the suspect, residents from the 1st and 2nd floor came outside to inquire about the police activity. Officers asked the residents if they knew the man they were detaining. In answer to the question, the residents stated that they had never seen the individual before. Officers further observed damage to the front door lock. When asked about the damage, the residents stated it was new damage. A search of the suspect’s bag enabled officers to locate and take possession of a screwdriver, a crowbar, a box cutter and a flashlight.
Officers arrested Robert Emmett, 37, of Boston and charged him with Attempted Breaking & Entering (Nighttime), Possession of Burglarious Tools and the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
