GUN-TOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN ROXBURYAbout 11:10pm, on Friday, September 20, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to radio call for a group of approximately ten males fighting in the middle of Cunningham Street in Roxbury. On arrival, officers observed the group pushing and shoving. Offices immediately exited their cruiser and commanded the combatants to separate. While officers were in the process of separating the parties, officers observed one suspect in particular, a black male, later identified as Richard Gomes (approximately 5\’8 tall, 200 pounds, wearing a brown hoodie and blue jeans) walk rapidly away from the group. Upon seeing this, officers quickly instructed Gomes to remain where he was. However, instead of standing still, the suspect began to run away from the scene. While pursuing him on foot, officers observed the suspect repeatedly grab at his waist area in such a way as to suggest he was in possession of a firearm. After a lengthy foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. With the suspect in custody, officers re-traced the steps of the foot pursuit. A search of the area enabled officers to recover the suspect’s brown hoodie and a semi-automatic firearm. When asked if he had in his possession a license to carry a firearm, the suspect stated, “No.”
Officers arrested Richard Gomes, 29, of Brockton and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
