SHOTS FIRED INCIDENT ENABLES POLICE TO ARREST THREE SUSPECTS; RECOVER ONE FIREARM IN MATTAPANAt about 11:48pm, on Sunday, August 31, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) and members or the Youth Violence Strike Force responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Hosmer Street. A description of the suspects was promptly broadcast over the police radio. In short time, responding officers observed thee individuals walking in a rapid fashion along Blue Hill Ave. Upon seeing the officers, one of the suspects changed direction and began walking away from the officers. Fearing the suspect may be armed, officers approached the suspect with the intention of frisking him for weapons. A frisk of the suspect enabled officers to determine that he was not in possession of a firearm. However, as officers were interacting with suspect #1, suspects #2 and #3 attempted to get into a motor vehicle. Officers quickly instructed the suspects to remain where they were. When officers attempted to pat frisk suspect #2, suspect #2 quickly clutched at an object in his waist area. A physical altercation ensued with both the suspect and officer fighting for control of an object that turned out to be a firearm. During the struggle, officers observed the firearm fall to the ground. The firearm, belonging to the suspect, was quickly recovered.
Officers arrested Daneroy Gordon, 29, of Hyde Park (suspect #2) and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition, Resisting Arrest and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer. Maurice Sexton, 19, of Dorchester (suspect #3) was charged with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Locksley Carroll, 24, of Hyde Park(suspect #1) was charged with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.
TELEVISION-TOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED DOWNTOWN
At about 12:08 am, on Sunday, August 31, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a suspicious-looking white male walking down Northern Avenue with a flat screen television. Upon seeing the arrival of the officers, the suspect attempted to flee the area. After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect and recovered the television. When asked to explain how he came into possession of the television, the suspect first stated that it belonged to his girlfriend who had asked him if he could carry it downtown in an attempt to sell it. When officers asked for additional explanation, the suspect changed his story, saying that a friend gave the television to him as a gift. When asked to provide a name or contact number for either his girlfriend or his friend, the suspect was unable to. When asked to provide a receipt or any proof of ownership, the suspect was unable to. When asked to provide any rational explanation for why he would be walking around the downtown area while carrying a television, the suspect was unable to.
Officers arrested Brian McGaffigan, 21, of West Roxbury and charged him with Receiving Stolen Property (over $250.00).
UNFAIR FIGHT IN EASTIE LANDS THREE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 11:55pm, on Sunday, August 31, 2008, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) responded to a radio call for a gang of kids fighting in the Burger King parking lot in the area of 944 Bennington Street. On arrival, officers observed one of the kids drop a hockey stick and another attempt to flee the scene. That individual, however, was detained. As officers were speaking to the kids, several witnesses and a victim approached the officers. According to the victim, she and her boyfriend had pulled up to pick up her brother. While waiting for her brother, one of the suspects approached the van and yelled, “Who the f*#k are you?!?” When the victim’s boyfriend exited the van, the suspect and several others began to punch and kick him. Officers arrested Miguel Lorenzo, 18, of East Boston, Orlando Reyes, 17, of East Boston, Darlin Jules, 19, of East Boston and charged all three with Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (shod foot).
