Threshold Inquiry Leads to Gun ArrestLast night around 7:00PM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) were on patrol in the area of Sumner St. when they observed a group of individuals seated on the front stairs of 104 Sumner St., one of whom they had previously observed riding a bicycle.
Officers stopped in order to conduct a threshold inquiry and upon exiting their cruiser asked the group if any of them lived in the building. All three of the individuals reported living elsewhere and were further asked if they were visiting or knew someone who lived in the building. All individuals in the group gave varying information to officers, none of which could be verified. Based on the information received, officers decided to conduct field interrogation reports of this encounter.
Officers, while filling the field interrogation forms, observed that one of the individuals had a bladed stance, usually a stance consistent with a person carrying a gun to maintain control and distance from potential persons who may try to disarm the gunmen. In addition, noticed that the same individual appeared to very nervous, was breathing heavily, reaching toward his pocket and was constantly surveying the immediate area. Officers now fearing that the suspect may be armed attempted to conduct a pat frisk at which time the potentially armed individual quickly backed toward a parked car and stated, “No, why?” Officers, now feeling that he suspect may try to flee or grab hold of a weapon, attempted to reach to the pocket that the suspect seemingly had the weapon secreted. The suspect, at the same time, reached for his pocket and attempted to break free and flee from officers.
The suspect was successfully detained and a loaded gun recovered from his person. The suspect, Aaron J. Lenardis, 21, of Chelsea was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest.
Argument Leads to Stabbing on West Brookline
At 10:50 P.M. on Thursday, July 31, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a fight near the intersection of West Brookline Street and Shawmut Avenue. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who stated that he had been stabbed and beaten by suspect Cleon Tagaris, 38, of Boston. According to the victim, the assault occurred after the two men engaged in an argument at Stella’s Restaurant, located at 1525 Washington St.
Officers observed swelling and a laceration on the victim’s face. The victim stated that these injuries were caused when his argument with the suspect turned violent. The suspect grabbed a butter knife from one of the restaurant’s tables and stabbed the victim in the chest.
Staff members at the restaurant broke up the fight without realizing that the suspect had used a butter knife as a weapon. Believing the altercation to be over, the staff escorted suspect from the premises and left him on West Brookline Street.
Soon after, the victim left the bar, where he encountered the suspect a second time. Another altercation broke out, in which the victim was punched, thrown to the ground, and kicked by the suspect. During the struggle, a nearby motor vehicle’s windshield was smashed.
The suspect was charged with two counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and one count of Assault and Battery. The victim was evaluated and treated for injuries at Boston Medical Center.
Not Enough Darkness to Hide B&E Suspect
This morning around 2:35AM, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston and Charlestown) responded to 53 Baldwin St. for a breaking and entering in progress.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that the suspect had fled prior to police arrival but provided officer with a very good description of the suspect. The victim and witnesses told officers that they observed the suspect inside the victim’s car. It was also reported to officers that the suspect stole an item from the victim’s car before he fled.
A search of the area was conducted by officers and after a while an individual matching the suspect description was found in a parking lot on Main Street. The suspect was detained and returned to the scene where he was positively identified as the individual that was observed in the victim’s car.
The suspect, Patrick J. Considine, 19, of Everett was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, and Larceny Under $250.00.
