BOSTON POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE SHOOTING IN MATTAPANPOLICE SEEK INFORMATION ON GRAY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE
On June 16, 2008, at approximately at 8:36pm, officers responded to a radio call from an Assault and Battery in progress at 70 Fairlawn Avenue in Mattapan. While en route officers were notified that the caller indicated witnessing a gray truck fleeing the scene. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with tinted windows.
Upon arrival, officers observed a 48 year-old male victim bleeding from the hand. Officers immediately requested medical assistance. Officers observed blood in the apartment as well as a shattered glass sliding door. Officers then observed an infant child on the living room floor suffering from serious injury. Officers determined that the 6 month old female was suffering from a gunshot wound and appeared to have life threatening injuries. At that time, officers transported the infant via a Boston Police vehicle to the nearest emergency room at Carney Hospital. Carney Hospital stabilized the infant and then transported her to Boston Medical Children’s Pediatrics Center.
The male victim, who is the father of the infant, was treated for a non-life threatening injury. The infant is currently in critical, but stable condition and is suffering from extensive internal injury.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the father was holding his child when the suspect climbed up onto a balcony and fired several shots through a glass window. Detectives have determined that this incident is not random, but related to an on-going gang dispute.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “As a father and a member of law enforcement, it is reprehensible to me that an infant child is an innocent victim of reckless gun violence and on-going gang activity. The coward responsible for this act deserves the most severe sentence. Officers are making every effort to locate and apprehend the perpetrator responsible for this heinous act.”
