“WHY AM I BEING ARRESTED? I GAVE THE RADIO BACK.”At about 5:00pm, on Saturday, June 7, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person breaking into a car in the area of 11 North Avenue. On arrival, officers were met by both the victim and the suspect. In fact, both were standing next to the motor vehicle involved in the incident. Officers spoke to the victim who stated that he observed the suspect breaking into his car. The victim says the suspect was hanging out of the window of his car with his legs sticking out. Upon seeing this, the victim says he quickly ran out to his car. When he got to the car, victim says the suspect had ripped the car stereo from the dashboard. When officers spoke to the suspect, the suspect stated, \”Why am I being arrested? I gave the radio back.\” After being arrested, Henry Soto, 27, of Roxbury, was charged with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle and Larceny (Over $250.00).
OVER THE LIMIT .. UNDER ARREST ON MASS AVE
At about 2:20am, on Saturday, June 7, 2008, officers from Area D-4 (South End) observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed along Mass Ave. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. While speaking to the operator, officers observed that the operator appeared to be intoxicated with glassy eyes and slurred speech. Officers further detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the operator. When asked to consent to a field sobriety test, the suspect replied, “Sure.” When asked if he was familiar with the English alphabet, the suspect stated, “Yes. I know the Greek alphabet, too.” In short time, the suspect revealed an inability to comprehend and execute the field sobriety test. As such, officers arrested Michael Scarlett, 26, of Boston and charged him with Operating Under the Influence.
RENT IT ONCE – SHAME ON ME .. RENT IT TWICE – YOU’RE UNDER ARREST
At about 1:00pm, on Monday, March 3, 2008, detectives from Area B-2 (Roxbury) spoke to a victim who stated that she attempted to rent an apartment (at 587 Beacon Street) that she learned about on Craig’s List. According to the victim, after answering the ad, she met the suspect in person and gave him $450.00 as a down payment for the apartment. However, approximately three weeks later, victim says that the suspect e-mailed her with bad news. According to the victim, the suspect wrote that the landlord had passed away and, as a result, he could no longer rent the apartment to her. Moreover, the suspect stated that he would re-fund her money. However, after numerous failed attempts to recoup her money, the victim contacted police. Additionally, although the suspect told the victim that the apartment could not be rented, it still remained on Craig’s List. As a result, detectives (in an undercover capacity) contacted the suspect to rent the apartment. When the suspect stated that the apartment was still available, detectives set up an appointment to meet the suspect and view the apartment.
Upon meeting the suspect, detectives arrested John Harden, 22, Boston and charged him with Larceny by Scheme.
