SIDEWALK SITTER ARRESTED DOWNTOWNAt about 2:40pm, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to 138 Tremont Street for a report of a citizen occupying the sidewalk with a folding chair and shopping cart. On arrival, officers observed a white male seated in a wooden director\’s chair sitting next to a cart filled with religious paraphernalia. The suspect was handing out the paraphernalia while occupying the public sidewalk. Moreover, the suspect was displaying a sign with written statements criticizing and protesting the church located at the above-mentioned address. When officers asked the suspect to move along, the suspect refused. Officers then asked the suspect if he had a permit allowing him to occupy the sidewalk. When the suspect stated he did not, officers again advised the suspect to move along. When the suspect again refused, officers arrested Alan Nystedt, 55, of Haverhill and charged him with Disturbing the Peace and Occupying a City Sidewalk without a Permit.
CALL FOR SHOTS FIRED LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 10:36pm, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 165 Walnut Avenue for a report of shots fired. On arrival, officers observed two males standing in the middle of the street. When officers approached the suspects, the suspects took off. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate one of the suspects. As officers were approaching the suspect, the suspect appeared to have been holding what could have been a firearm. At this point, officers ordered the suspect to put both of his hands in the air. After handcuffing the suspect, officers located a firearm in the suspect’s waist area. After seizing the firearm, officers arrested Lester Sabb, 57, of Roxbury and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition.
STUCK GAS PEDAL LEADS VAN INTO HOUSE
At about 7:00am, on Thursday, May 1, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a motor vehicle accident in the area of 130 Milton Avenue. On arrival, officers observed a gray Nissan van that appeared to have struck the residence at the above-mentioned address. Officers observed minor structural damage to the house, as well as, damage to a gutter drain and the lawn. When asked to explain the accident, the operator of the motor vehicle told officers that the gas pedal in the van got stuck. As a result of the gas pedal getting stuck, the operator states he lost control of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle also states that he was driving his daughter to school when the accident occurred. The daughter, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was treated on scene for minor bumps and bruises. Officers cited the operator of the motor vehicle For An Unrestrained Child (Child without a seat belt).
