Vigilance Pays Off for Diligent CopsYesterday morning around 1:17am, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) were on patrol in the area of Dorchester Ave. and Leedsville St. when they observed a motor vehicle parked on the above intersection with its lights on. Officers aware of recent incidents in the area, and spikes in prostitution, B&Es to cars, and a recent home invasion decided to further investigate this car by circling the block to come back to the car’s location.
Officers went around the block and as they passed 15 Leedsville St. observed four individuals who were walking up the street briefly stop by a parked motor vehicle. Officers, specifically saw one member of the group, bend down by the parked motor vehicle, get up, and follow one member of the group into the back yard of 15 Leedsville Street. The other two other individuals that had been walking with them continued up the street.
Having observed these individuals for some time, officers exited their motor vehicle to conduct threshold inquiries of the two individuals that had just walked into the back yard.
As soon as officers exited their unmarked cruiser, the suspects took off running. Officers yelled command s for the suspects to stop running and as they ordered the suspects to stop heard what sounded like a gun falling from the suspect that was fleeing in the back yard. Officers pursued this suspect and after a lengthy foot chase, found the suspect hiding a car under 120 Adams Street.
Offices returned to the location where they first observed the suspect bending down near the parked vehicle and found a .45 caliber firearm handgun, and a sawed-off shotgun. After recovering these items, officers went to the rear of 15 Leedsville St. and a also found what sounded like a gun getting dropped by the suspects, looked in the back yard, and found a pry bar, claw hammer, and a white mask. During subsequent investigation, officers also recovered a stun gun, and a pair of black gloves.
Suspect, Tha Heng, 26, of Lowell was arrested and charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Sawed-Off Shotgun, and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
Domestic Incident Almost Lands Officer in Hospital
At approximately 1:48am today, officers from District B-2 (Dorchester and Roxbury) responded to 104 Harrishof St. in Roxbury for a domestic incident involving vandalism.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who reported that her child’s father had just tried to vandalize her vehicle. Witnesses also reported observing the suspect crouched near the victim’s vehicle. The suspect’s description was broadcast and officers canvassed the area in search of the suspect.
Officers were called back to the same location short time later and were informed by the victim that the suspect had been seen in her driveway after calling her and threatening to “blow up” her car. While on scene speaking to the victim, officers were alerted to an approaching car, and told that this may be the suspect. Officers stepped out into the street, in full uniform, and directed the suspect to stop his motor vehicle. The suspect, having observed the officer, then revved up his engine and accelerated his car toward the officer forcing the officer to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit.
The suspect fled the scene, and a description of the suspect was broadcast with his direction of flight. Officers located the car a short while later unoccupied on Wabeno Street. The assistance of a canine unit was requested and with the dog’s assistance, the suspect was located hiding underneath the rear porch of a house. After placing the suspect under arrest, officers returned to the car and found a can of lighter fluid consistent with the threat that the suspect had made to blow up the victim’s car. During the booking process, officer also found a lighter in the suspect’s pocket.
The suspect, Roscoe D. Eutsay, 25, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, failure to Stop for Police, Using Without Authority, Threats to Commit a Crime, Attempted Arson of a Motor Vehicle, Trespassing, and Driving to Endanger.
Suspects Arrested for B&E to Motor Vehicles
This morning, officers from District D-14 (Allston and Brighton) arrested suspects, Joseph E. Cotto-Berrio, 18, of Rockland, and William J. Christie, 18, of Brighton and charged them with Breaking and Entering to Motor Vehicles.
Around 2:15am, officers responded to a radio call for a crime in progress at the intersection of Oakland and Bennett Streets. Officers were already in the area patrolling due to an increase in motor vehicle breaking and entries, and arrived almost immediately after the call. On scene, officers observed three individuals in front of a fence with CDs strewn about the floor. The three individuals who attempted to flee from officers but two were apprehended.
Officers spoke to a witness who reported that he had observed he had observed the three suspects walking down Bennett St. trying to open car doors, and then he heard them smashing a car window with an object near Oakland Street. Officers were able to locate two motor vehicles that had been broken into, and the owner of one of them positively identified some of the CD’s found on the lawn near where the suspects were first seen. After the objects were identified, one of the two suspects admitted to having broken into two cars. Officers recovered a pair of stolen sunglasses from that suspect.
