Office of the Chief Medical Examiner DeterminesCause and Manner of Death For Acia and Sophia Johnson
On Sunday, April 6, 2008 at approximately 3:15am, officers from Area C-6 (South Boston) responded to 154 W. 6th Street for a building fire. Upon arrival, officers found the front of the residence engulfed in flames which were rapidly spreading to adjacent dwellings. On scene, officers were alerted to the possibility of a person or persons trapped inside the building.
Once the fire was extinguished, Boston Fire personnel alerted officers that two deceased victims were located trapped under debris in a rear upper room of 154 W. 6th Street. The victims were transported by EMS to Boston Medical Center.
As a result of the autopsies performed, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has determined the cause and manner of death for both victims.
The OCME has determined that the manner of death is homicide, caused by smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. The victims, both identified as a result of dental comparisons, have been officially identified as 14 year-old Acia Johnson and 2 year-old Sophia Johnson, both of South Boston.
