HOMICIDE UNIT APPREHENDS LINDEN ST. MURDER SUSPECT

On Saturday, March 29, 2008 at approximately 2:00am, officers from District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) responded to 29 Linden Street for reports of a person shot. On arrival officers located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, Luis Ortiz, 25, of Brighton, was transported to Beth Israel Hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries.After an exhaustive investigation surrounding the facts and circumstances of Mr. Ortiz’s murder, detectives applied for an arrest warrant yesterday charging Thomas Manning, 22, of Allston with Murder and Possession of a Firearm. Soon after police secured the warrant, Manning surrendered himself to authorities.
This investigation was led by the Homicide Unit, with extensive co-operation from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office officers and detectives of District D-14.
Manning was arraigned today at Brighton District Court for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Murder.
