LOUD PARTY LANDS LOUD MOUTH IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 12:18am, on Saturday, March 29, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for a fight and loud party at 56 Cummings Road in Brighton. On arrival, officers observed several people standing and milling about in front of the above-mentioned address. The individuals were smoking, drinking, and talking in a loud and boisterous manner. When asked to explain their presence, several individuals stated they were attending the party in apartment #1. While standing outside the building, officers could easily hear loud music emanating from the apartment. When officers knocked on the door to the apartment, it took several minutes before the door was answered. Upon entering the apartment, officers observed 60 to 70 people drinking, yelling and screaming over the loud music. When officers attempted to locate the owner of the apartment, partygoers refused to provide any information. When asked to turn down the music, partygoers, again, refused to comply. An unknown white male approached officers and stated that he lived in the apartment. When told that there had been noise complaints and, because of the complaints, the party needed to end, the owner of the apartment began to verbally abuse the officers. When told a second time, the individual became even more agitated and, while pointing, struck an officer in the shoulder. At this point, officers arrested Chris Newsome, 18, of Brighton and charged him with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Disturbing the Peace, Being Keeper of a Disorderly House and Procuring Alcohol for Minors.
