STOLEN CAR SUSPECT CLAIMS HE BOUGHT THE CAR A HALF HOUR AGOAt about 5:51am, on Monday, February 25, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a red light at the intersection of Dudley and Dearborn Streets. While following behind the motor vehicle, officers also observed the motor vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (light & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. When officers spoke to the operator, the operator stated, “I’m on my way home .. I’m not doing anything wrong.” When officers looked inside the motor vehicle, officers noticed that the ignition was damaged. Upon further inspection, officers noted that the motor vehicle was running without keys in the ignition. Additionally, officers observed a screwdriver lying on the front passenger seat. When asked to produce a license and registration, the operator said he couldn’t. When asked who owned the motor vehicle, the suspect stated, “I just bought the car a half hour ago from a guy on Geneva for fifty bucks.” At this point, officers asked the suspect to exit the vehicle. A search of the suspect produced a hypodermic needle and various drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested Miguel Vargas, 40, of Boston and charged him Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Operating without a License and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING LANDS TWO BEHIND BARS
At about 6:01pm, on Sunday, February 24, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an assault & battery in progress in the area of 1350 Dorchester Avenue. On arrival, officers spoke to two victims who stated that someone tried to grab them at knifepoint. According to the victims, they were walking home from shopping when a car pulled up next to them. As soon as the car stopped, one of the occupants exited the car and approached the victims. According to the victims, the suspect pulled a knife and attempted to grab one of the victims and pull her towards the car. At this point, the victim says she struck the suspect with her bag. After being struck with the bag, the suspect jumped back inside the car and fled. Officers immediately broadcast a description of the suspects and the suspect’s car over the police radio. In short time, a car matching that of the suspects was stopped along Dorchester Avenue. The victims were brought to the scene where they were able to positively identify both suspects. After being positively identified, officers arrested Terrance Fulgham, 26, of Dorchester and Stephen Njeru, 32, of Gardener and charged both with Attempted Kidnapping while Armed, Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), Intent to Rob while Armed.
UNRULY BAR PATRON LANDS IN CUSTODY AFTER BREAKING A WINDOW
At about 11:39am, on Sunday, February 24, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) observed an individual break the front window of a bar in the area of 131 State Street. Bar employees told officers that they kicked the suspect out of their establishment after observing the suspect pushing people. In fact, one of the employees stated that they observed the suspect push someone down some stairs. After the suspect was escorted from the bar, the employees closed the door. After the door of the establishment was closed, the suspect turned around and broke the door’s window. After a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested Andrew Christopher, 22, of Boston and charged him with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property and being a Disorderly Person.
