Pickpocket Arrested with More Than Stolen GoodsYesterday, Sunday, February 23, 2008 morning around 9:40am, officers from District A-1 (Downtown and Charlestown) were flagged down by a female in the area of Washington St. and Temple Place.
The female, later determined to be the victim of a pickpocket, was accompanied by a friend who told officers that her wallet had been stolen from her bag by a suspect who was now walking from the scene. The victim then ran down the street and pointed out the suspect who was accompanied by a female. An officer stopped the suspect and while the officer had the suspect stopped, her companion started walking away. The victim then informed the officer that the stopped suspect had passed off her wallet to his companion after stealing it from her bag. The officer then requested that another unit stop the suspect’s companion.
Assisting officers responded and stopped the second individual a short distance away. The victim’s wallet was then found in the stopped individual’s bag. Officers arrested suspect #2, Sheila Murchison, 45, of Boston and charged her with Larceny from a Person, and Receiving Stolen Property.
Officers while placing the first male suspect in the back of their cruiser were informed by a passerby and informed that the suspect had discarded some items on the ground just before officers stopped him. Officers then went to the location where the suspect had been stopped and found 8 individual warped small packages containing heroin. Suspect #1, Theodore Harrison, 51, of Boston was arrested and charged with larceny from a Person, and Possession of Class with Intent to Distribute.
On arrival at the station, officers located numerous pieces of paper consistent with the same type of paper that the discarded heroin was packaged in, with the bottoms torn off those papers.
Armed Robbery Suspect Caught with Crack
About 1:36pm on Saturday, February 23, 2008, officers from District B-2 responded to 14 Elder St. in Roxbury for an armed robbery call.
On arrival, officers met with the victim who stated to officers that he had been robbed at knifepoint at the corner of Dudley and Wendover Streets. The victim reported that he followed the suspect and observed the suspect go into the back of 14 Elder Street, a short distance from the scene of the incident. Officer placed the victim in the back of the cruiser, and drove him around in the area of the incident to try and find the suspect. Officers were able to locate the suspect walking on Elder St. and stopped him as he got to Columbia Road. The victim positively identified the suspect and he was placed under arrest.
Suspect, Joshua Womble, 24, of Dorchester was placed under arrest and transported to the station charged with Armed Robbery. During the booking search, officers found 16 individually wrapped packets of crack cocaine in the suspect’s socks. The suspect was then additionally charged with Possession of Class B, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone.
Operation Squeeze Nets Five “Johns”
Yesterday, Saturday 23, 2008, officers from District B-2 conducted “Operation Squeeze” in response to community complaints, to deter the resulting effects of prostitution, and address overall quality of life issues in the lower Blue Hill Ave. and Dudley St. areas.
As part of this operation, officers were deployed in an undercover capacity in the areas most often frequented by prostitutes and “johns.”
During this operation officers arrested the following individuals and charged them with Prostitution, Sex for a Fee after they solicited the undercover for various sexual services in exchange for money.
1. Charles W. McDonald, 38, of Cambridge
2. Joao DaVeiga, 37, of Boston
3. Wayne A. Gaynor, 37, of Bronx, NY
4. Andre Gonzalez, 48, of Roxbury
5. Louis W. Barrasso, 64, of Everett
These suspects will appear in Roxbury District Court on Monday, February 25, 2008 charged with Prostitution, Sex for a Fee.
Shots Fired Inside Boston Night Club
This morning around 1:43am, officers were inside the Aria nightclub located at 246 Tremont St. in Boston when they observed several small groups exchanging words.
Offices immediately responded to address these exchanges when they escalated into several fights. The fight grew to about 20-35 people, as patrons started to swing champagne bottles striking people about the head and torso. Officers, at this time, were engaged with the crowd and trying to break up the various fights that had broken out.
While actively engaged with the crowd, officers heard one loud bang consistent with the sound of gunshots, followed by two to three more. An officer that was on a platform looked in the direction of the gunshots and observed the suspect standing about five feet away with his hands extended holding a black firearm randomly firing shots into the crowd. As officers made their way toward the suspect, he turned around and attempted to exit the main room, bringing the firearm out of view. Officers, having identified the suspect, attempted to gain control of the suspect as he tried to make his way his way of the club. The suspect violently resisted officers’ efforts to detain him. The suspect refused to heed officers’ commands to drop the weapon as they attempted to remove the gun from his possession, and kept trying to reach for his waist.
Officers, after a lengthy and very violent struggle with the suspect, gained control of the suspect and disarmed him. After disarming the suspect, officers were now faced with an attack from the crowd who attempted to attack officers. Officers requested assistance from other units and alerted the dispatchers that officers were in trouble. Numerous units from around the city responded to the scene and after some time were able to secure the scene.
After securing the scene, officers located four victims that had sustained injuries during the incident. Victim #1 suffered a gunshot wound to the left elbow, and was transported to the hospital. Victim #2 suffered a laceration to the head from getting hit with a champagne bottle. Victim #3 suffered a gunshot to the right elbow and was transported to the hospital. Victim #4, a state trooper suffered a broken arm while trying struggling with the suspect and breaking up the fights.
The suspect, Damion Jamaal-Anthony HALEY, 24, of Milton was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Firearm Discharged Within 500’ of a Dwelling, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of a large Capacity Feeding Device. In addition to the above charges, the suspect was also charged with six outstanding default warrants.
