STEALING MAIL NEVER A GOOD IDEAAt about 1:42am, on Thursday, February 7, 2008, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) responded to a breaking & entering in progress in the area of 310 Chelsea Street in East Boston. While en route to the call, officers received a description of the suspect. Officers were told that the suspect was wearing a trash bag as a raincoat. In short time, officers located an individual matching the description. According to the victim, who later positively identified the suspect, he observed the suspect inside the hallway of his apartment building. According to the victim, this seemed odd because the front door of the building operates on a ‘buzzer’ lock which means, before a person can gain entry, they need to be buzzed in. When officers searched the hallway, they observed several articles of US Mail that had been ripped open. A search of the suspect enabled officers to recover several pieces of US Mail. Officers arrested Joel Mendez, 23, of East Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Residence (Nighttime).
MOTOR VEHICLE STOP LANDS ONE IN CUSTODY FOR DRUG POSSESSION
At about 6:35pm, on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) observed a motor vehicle operating with a defective brake light. As a result of the violation, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. While speaking to the operator of the car, officers observed what appeared to be marijuana scattered atop the center console. In addition to seeing the marijuana, officers were able to detect an odor of freshly burnt marijuana. When asked about the odor, the operator of the car stated,\”I recently smoked some in the car.” A search of the motor vehicle enabled officers to recover an undisclosed amount of marijuana, a digital scale and a knife approximately 9 inches in length. Officers arrested Emanuel Berrios, 19, of Taunton and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Class D Drug (marijuana), Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug (marijuana).

At about 3:15am, on Thursday, February 7, 2008, an officer performing a paid detail at the CVS at 715 Morrissey Boulevard observed an individual attempting to enter a motor vehicle in the parking lot of the store. Failing to gain entry, the individual then walked into the CVS. Once inside the store, the individual began creating a disturbance. As a result, the detail officer entered the store and approached the suspect. While speaking to the suspect, the detail officer observed that the individual’s hands were bleeding. The officer also detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect. When asked why he had blood on his hands, the individual replied, “Why don’t you tell me why I have blood on my hands?” At this point, the individual attempted to flee. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested Ryan Lamb, 27, of Hingham and charged him with Disorderly Conduct and Attempted Breaking & Entering (Motor Vehicle).
