Stolen Car Suspect Arrested Transporting ChildrenLast night around 6:15pm, officers from District B-3 stopped a car at Norfolk St. and Woolson St. after it failed to stop for a red light at Morton and Evans Streets.
Once the vehicle had come to a stop, officers queried the plate and found out that it had been reported stolen at Logan Airport since November 17, 2007. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed that it was occupied by four children along with the driver. The driver was taken into custody at which time he stated to officers that he knew nothing about the stolen status of the van, and was only doing extra work for a friend.
After removing the suspect from the van, officers performed a search incident to arrest where they recovered numerous bags of marijuana, and various papers in the suspect’s name. The children were removed and reported to officers that the suspect regularly picks them up and drops them at school. The children were all turned over to their parents who were informed of the circumstances.
Suspect, Rickey Coplin, 45, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Class D, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone.
OUI Suspect Arrested After Crashing Into Police Cruiser
Early this morning, around 12:11am, officers from District A-7 (East Boston) arrested suspect, Cesar A. Gaviria, 33, of Revere and charged him with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Second Subsequent Offense.
Officers were in the area of Emmons St. and Paris St. when they heard a loud crashing sound and observed a marked Boston Police cruiser roll up on the sidewalk and come to a stop. Officers quickly responded and found the cruiser occupied by an officer. The officer reported that he was stopped at a light when a car operated by the suspect hit his cruiser. The suspect had also hit another parked motor vehicle.
Officers responded to the suspect’s car and asked him to exit after he indicated that he was all right and not suffering any physical ailments. Once the suspect exited his car, officers immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol, and noticed that the suspect was unsteady on his feet. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol, the suspect responded that he had only had two beers.
Based on their observations, officers formed the opinion that the suspect may be operating under the influence of alcohol and asked him to perform sobriety tests to confirm or refute their opinion. The suspect failed all sobriety tests given to him and consequently was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.
B&E Suspect Arrested with Stolen Goods
This morning around 1:41am, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded the Little House Community School located at 275 East Cottage St. in Dorchester for a report of a breaking and entering in progress.
There, officers met with security officers who had caught the suspect exiting the building with a bag in hand. The suspect apologized for breaking into the building and stated that he took the items in the bag because he needed some money. The suspect went on to report that he used to attend programs at the Little House Community School.
The items in the bag were inventoried revealing several digital cameras and a camcorder. The suspect, Migdoel Montanez, 18, of Dorchester was arrested with Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony, Larceny from a Building and Possession of Burglarious Tools for burglarious tools found on his person.
