Kitchen Attack Leaves Two Victims StabbedYesterday, Saturday, January 26, 2008 around 5:16pm, offices from District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) responded to 1850 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton/International House of Pancakes (IHOP) for two employees stabbed.
While en route, officers observed an individual running away from the scene on Parsons Street, less than one block from the scene of the stabbing incident. Officers stopped this individual, later determined to be the stabbing suspect, who was breathing heavily and had blood on his hands and clothing. The suspect was then secured and returned to the scene where he was positively identified by witnesses and victims.
On scene, officers found that there were two victims suffering from stab wounds, one with a large laceration to the arm and another with a stab wound to the abdomen. Officers then spoke with the witnesses on scene, and learned that all three parties involved in the incident were employed by the restaurant. After speaking to numerous witnesses on scene, officers learned that the suspect who off-duty, came to the restaurant around 5:00pm and demanded that victim 1 come outside and speak to him. When victim 1 refused to go outside the suspect entered the restaurant and went to the kitchen area where he armed himself with a knife and advanced toward victim 1 in a confrontational manner. Another employee of the restaurant, victim 2, observing the developments, attempted to intervene and received a stab wound to the arm. After the suspect slashed victim 2’s arm, he continued and stabbed victim 1 in the abdomen. After the suspect assaulted victim 1, another employee was able to jump on his back and disarm him at which point he fled the scene.
The suspect, Victelio Mandoza, 44, of Brighton was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
Both victims were transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Shots Fired/Explosion Incident at Wales and Kingsdale Streets
Last night around 9:30pm, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan and Dorchester) responded to the intersection of Kingsdale and Wales Streets for what the caller described as the sound of gunshot(s).
There, officers spoke to witnesses who reported hearing a loud explosion from the area of Kingsdale Street. Officers continued to canvass the area looking for evidence of either ballistic evidence or an explosive device when they located a car parked in front of 83 Wales St. with a window blown out and a distinct smell chemical smell coming from the car. Officers then heard a loud ticking sound coming from the car. Based on those observations, officers blocked the area around the car and requested the presence of the Bomb Squad, and the Fired Department.
After the area around the car was blocked off, it was later determined that there had not been any explosive device but rather an electrical fire in the car had caused the explosion.
Three Sitting Ducks Arrested in Stolen Car
At approximately 11:40pm last night, an officer from Special Operations observed a motor vehicle previously broadcast as being stolen earlier that night being operated in the area of 344 Hyde Park Avenue.
The officer requested assistance from other officers and was able to successful stop the stolen car that was occupied by three individuals. Three suspects, Karim Cross, 18, of Dorchester, Marcus K. Cole, 18, of Roslindale and a 16 year-old juvenile from Dorchester were placed under arrest and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle. It should be noted that the car had only been reported stolen about an hour before the suspect were caught and arrested in the stolen car.
Pickpocket Suspect Arrested for Taking Out More Than Food
This morning around 12:16am, officer responded to the intersection of Granite Ave. and Gallivan Blvd./Windy City Restaurant for a suspicious person who taken a wallet from a customer’s purse.
On scene, officers learned that a described older black male had taken a wallet from a woman’s pocketbook while inside the restaurant. The suspect had been observed by a witness who alerted the victim that the suspect had taken her wallet from her purse. The victim, upon being advised of the suspect’s actions, turned around and observed the suspect with her wallet in his hands, which she snatched out of his hands. The suspect then fled the scene.
Within minutes, officers located the suspect, Henry J. Hale, 46, of Dorchester, and placed him under arrest charging with Larceny from a Person.
