BOSTON POLICE ARREST FELLOW OFFICERSUSPECTED OF ARMED ROBBERY
On January 11, 2008 at 3:54pm, police received a report of a robbery at the corner of Albano Street and Washington Street at a Roslindale Gas Station. Caller reports being robbed at gunpoint by a black male. The suspect fled in a vehicle observed by witnesses, who were then able to provide a detailed description to police. A vigilant citizen observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Canterbury Street in Roslindale and immediately alerted authorities.
A quick investigation, led officers to the home where the vehicle was registered. When officers arrived at that location they observed the suspect in the driver’s seat of the suspect vehicle, which was parked on Gleason Street in Dorchester. The officers removed the suspect from the vehicle and found him to be in possession of a firearm. Officers then detained the suspect while observing clothing in the backseat of the vehicle that matched the clothing description worn during the robbery.
Boston Police took suspect into custody and he was then positively identified as the suspect involved in the armed robbery. The suspect identified as Boston Police Officer Michael T. Jones was arrested and charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Armed Assault with Intent To Rob and two counts of Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon by way of firearm.
Michael T. Jones has been immediately placed on administrative leave from the department pending his termination. Jones is 44 years old and resides in Dorchester. He was appointed to the Boston Police Department in 1988. His last assignment was District E-18 (Hyde Park) and his rank is patrol officer.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “I would like to commend the swift investigative response by Boston Police officers who successfully effected this arrest in less than one hour from the time the incident was reported. I would also like to applaud the courageous community members who provided detailed descriptions and astute observations that led officers directly to the suspect.”
Commissioner Davis added, “The internal investigation on this case is well underway and the punishment will be aggressive and certain. It is reprehensible when an officer violates the law that he is entrusted to uphold and I will not stand for it. This department will continue to remain steadfast in its efforts to protect and serve the citizens of our city with absolute integrity.”
In the spirit of openness and transparency, Boston Police Media Relations will continue to provide updates as the process allows. A photo unfortunately will not be made available at this time due to further investigation and potential pending witness identification.
