Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested by Detail OfficerAbout 10:44am yesterday, December 31, 2007, a detail officer performing a paid detail at the Mount Washington Bank located at 498 Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester arrested suspect, Adam Grennan, 39, of Hull and charged with Unarmed Bank Robbery.
The officer while in a back room of the bank observed the suspect enter the bank via closed-captioned television monitoring system, and made note of the fact that the suspect had a hood over his head and that his face was covered obstructing his appearance. Based on the suspect’s appearance, he immediately drew the officer’s attention as well as the attention of bank employees.
After observing the suspect enter the bank, the officer exited the back room and approached the suspect who was now in line, and had just approached the teller. The officer drew closer to the suspect who was now engaged with the teller and had failed to notice his approach. As the officer stood directly behind the suspect, the teller started to push a large amount of money toward the suspect and yelled to the officer that the suspect was robbing the bank.
The officer immediately withdrew his firearm, identified himself as a Boston Police officer and placed the suspect under arrest. The detail officer then requested assistance at which time numerous other officers responded, and transported the suspect to the district station for booking. No weapons were found on the suspect but officers did recover the note that he passed to the teller ordering him that he was robbing the bank.
Early Celebration Ends OUI Suspect in Jail for New Year
Yesterday afternoon around 1:53pm, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury and Dorchester) responded to 13 Schuyler St. in Dorchester for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim of the accident who reported to officers that he was sitting in his car when he observed a car backing down the one-way street, fail to maintain its course and then hit his parked motor vehicle. The victim stated that he approached the operator of the car and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol from the operator’s breath. Officers then approached the operator of the car to talk to her and they also detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect’s breath. Officers spoke to the operator of the car who admitted to them that she had consumed two shots of gin but stated to officers that there was no reason why she would not be able to successfully complete any sobriety tests. Despite the operator’s confidence, she failed both sobriety tests given to her.
Officers arrested suspect, Novella McCollum, 54, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, and cited for the same.
Safe Street Team Arrests Speeding Driver
About 5:03pm yesterday, New Year’s Eve, officers from the District B-2 Orchard Gardens Safe Street Team were on patrol walking in the area of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Fairland Street when they observed a vehicle speeding down the street.
Officers, on foot, steeped out in the street and directed the vehicle to stop. The operator, seeing that officers were on foot patrol, accelerated pass officers and kept going. A description of the vehicle was broadcast along with only partial plate that officers were able to get due to the speed of the vehicle. A short while later, the vehicle was stopped a short distance away while being operated at the intersection of Dudley Street and Harrison Avenue. There, the operator stated that she had seen the officers try to stop her but had not stopped because she was going too fast, and furthermore did not turn around because the street was too narrow.
The operator of the speeding vehicle, Djamilsa V. Goncalves, 28, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Failure to Stop for Police Officers, and Speeding.
