Tinsel Trail Leads Officers to Christmas Gift Stealing B&E Suspect At approximately 4:17pm yesterday, officers from District E-18 (Hyde Park and Roslindale) responded to 855 American Legion Highway for a breaking and entry in progress.
On arrival, officers spoke to a witness who reported observing a suspect jiggling the door of the apartment that was broken into, and later walking out with numerous wrapped Christmas presents. The witness further reported to officers that about 15 minutes later she observed the suspect come back to the apartment and walk out with a large flat screen television.
The witness and apartment management contacted the victim of the B&E who came home and discovered that about 20 presents were missing from her home, her large screen flat television and an assortment of electronic toys.
Officers followed a trail of tinsel from the victim’s door to another door in the apartment building. There, officers knocked on the door and announced their station. Officers outside the door to the apartment could hear noise from inside, but waited for some time before the door was answered. As the door was answered, officers observed two males quickly make their way to a bedroom door, shut the door and turn off the lights. Officers requested that the two males come to the door. Those two males came out to the hallway where one was immediately identified as the suspect who was seen carrying the presents from the victim’s apartment.
Suspect, Fernando Mays, 20, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime, and outstanding warrants. The other male, David Roberts, 24, of Dorchester was also arrested due to several outstanding warrants
Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested by Downtown Holiday Walking Beats
Yesterday, Tuesday, December 18, 2007 around 4:20pm, Holiday Walking Beat Officers (recent graduates of the Academy assigned to District A-1 for the holidays) from District A-1 arrested suspect, William L. Ferreira, 49, of Boston and charged him Armed Robbery.
Officers were on patrol in the Downtown Crossing area when they observed the suspect being pursued by a store employee who was yelling that his store had just been robbed at gunpoint. Officers pursued the suspect up Winter Street and caught him in front of 29 Winter Street. Officers handcuffed the suspect, and conducted a pat frisk during which they felt the presence of a hard object in the suspect’s pocket. Further search of the suspect revealed the hard object to be a replica firearm.
Officer returned to the Store located at 415 Washington St./Aldo’s and spoke to the victim/cashier. The victim reported that the suspect walked up to her while at the register, pointed a gun at her, and threatened to kill her. The suspect then pushed the victim to the side, grabbed money from the register and fled out of the door.
OUI Suspect Arrested After Nearly Hitting Officers’ Cruiser
Around 8:34pm last night, officers from District E-5 were on patrol in the area of Centre St. and LaGrange St. when a motor vehicle swerved into the officers’ lane almost causing officers to hit a snow bank.
Officers conducted a traffic stop at Centre and Alberta Streets and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol as they spoke to the operator. Officers asked the operator if she had consumed any alcohol, and she answered affirmatively. During the conversation, officers made note that the operator’s eyes were glassy, and her speech slurred. Check of the car’s registration revealed that it was not properly registered, nor insured and that the plate was attached. The suspect was asked to perform several sobriety tests and failed all of them. It should be noted that during the time that the suspect was performing the sobriety tests one of her passengers exited the motor vehicle, and a pint of vodka from her lap to the street. Officers then recovered a 12 pack of Coors beer with 3 missing cans and a Dunkin Donuts cup of full of rum mixed with Coke.
Suspect/operator, Laurie Ann Crosby, 36, of Hull was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, and cited for Unsafe Lane Change, Operating a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Alcohol, Procuring Alcohol for Minors, Attaching Plates, Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Unregistered Motor Vehicle.
