Safe Street Team Arrest Suspect In Shooting

About 5:45 pm on Friday, October 19, 2007, Officers from District C-11 assigned to the Codman Square Safe Street Team were on foot patrol on Washington St and Lyndhurst St when officers heard five consecutive gunshots coming from the area of Dunlap St and Washington St.Officers immediately started running in the direction of Dunlap St. They observed a person wearing a black hooded sweatshirt running from the corner of Washington and Dunlap Streets. The officers pursued the individual on foot down Dunlap Street toward Whitfield Street. As the officers reached Whitfield Street they were directed to the rear of 92 Whitfield St.
Officers proceeded to the rear of 92 Whitfield St where they located the suspect crouching behind the rear deck of the residence speaking on his cell phone. Officers then pat frisked the suspect and felt a hard object in his right front pant pocket. Officer observed the wooden handle of a firearm sticking out of his pocket.
Officers located the first victim on Washington Street who stated he was walking with a friend when a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt shot at them. During this investigation officers were informed that a gunshot victim self-applied to Boston Medical Center. Officers responded to the hospital and located a 25-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The second victim stated that he and a friend were walking along Washington Street when a person wearing a black hooded sweatshirt fired five shots at them. The victim stated he realized he was shot and took a cab to the hospital. The victim was treated for a non-life threatening injury.
Omar Mohamed, 19, of Jamaica Plain was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a firearm within 500ft of a Dwelling, Possession of Class B and Possession with Intent to distribute class B within 1000ft of a School Zone.
Officers did recover a firearm and drugs from the suspect.
