DAILY INCIDENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2007

AREA D-4 COMMANDER HELPS ARREST ONE IN THE SOUTH ENDAt about 1:02pm, on Tuesday, October 15, 2007, Area D-4’s commanding officer, Captain William Evans, observed an individual attempting to break into a motor vehicle in the area of Ipswich and Boylston Streets. As a result of his observations, Captain Evans approached the suspect. While being questioned by the Captain, the suspect appeared to be nervous. Captain Evans observed that the suspect was in possession of a screwdriver. Captain Evans further observed scratch marks to the trunk of the motor vehicle. At this time, additional units showed up on the scene. Soon after, the owner of the motor vehicle showed up. The owner of the car told officers that the damage to the trunk was new. As a result of the damage, officers arrested Gregory Thomas, 50, of Boston and charged him with Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
DRIVING TO ENDANGER LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 12:05pm, on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) observed two motor vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed (approximately 90 – 100 mph) along Columbus Avenue. Officers further observed the two cars weaving in and out of traffic. When officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens), the two motor vehicles turned into the Bromley Heath Housing Development. Officers were able to stop one of the motor vehicles when the operator inadvertently drove down a dead end street. The operator of the motor vehicle, Jonathan Rodrigues, 17, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Refusing to Stop for a Police Officer and Driving to Endanger.
WRONG PLACE TO STOP-N-SHOPLIFT
At about 8:00pm, on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, an officer performing a paid detail on Area C-11 (Dorchester) at the Stop-n-Shop on Freeport Street observed an individual exit the store pushing a shopping cart filled with items. According to witnesses, the individual pushing the cart did not pay for the items. A search of the shopping cart produced, among many things, 10 bags of frozen shrimp. When officers asked the suspect to produce a receipt for the goods in his shopping cart, the suspect stated that he did not have one. Officers arrested Shane Whitsey, 36, of Boston and charged him with Shoplifting.
