COMMISSIONER DAVIS ORDERS IMMEDIATE INCREASEOF POLICE PRESENCE IN AREA
At 12:28pm on October 13, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury/Mission Hill) responded to a radio call for a report of a person shot at 2700 Washington Street, specifically Washington Park. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Numerous police units responded to this incident and the victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center and treated for a non-life threatening injury. According to witnesses, several individuals approached the victim and fired multiple shots, one of which struck the victim.
This is a very active investigation and police are pursuing several leads. Preliminary information indicates that the victim, a 39-year old black male, is affiliated with a youth sporting activity that was occurring at the time of the shooting. The suspect(s) are believed to be gang-involved. Investigative information indicates that the victim and at least one of the suspects had come into contact prior to the actual shooting incident.
Investigators are canvassing the area seeking additional investigative leads. Commissioner Davis has also increased the number of officers on patrol.
Commissioner Davis stated, “The Boston Police Department will not stand for illegal firearms on our streets or for an individual’s unabated willingness to use one. We will take every step necessary to punish perpetrators who are responsible for violent activity. We will continue to be focused and strategic in our efforts to eradicate firearm violence from city streets.” Commissioner Davis added, “The victim in this incident is a role model in our neighborhoods. The individuals responsible for this violent act should be scorned by their families and held in public contempt by the community.”
