UNARMED ROBBERY LANDS THREE IN CUSTODYAt about 10:15pm, on Thursday, September 27, 2007, officers from Area E-18 were on patrol in the area of Washington Street when they observed three white males approach and surround two white males. Officers then observed the three white males quickly flee the scene. Believing something criminal had taken place, officers approached the two white males. The two white males told officers that they had just been robbed. According to one of the victims, one of the three suspects reached into his back pocket and stole his wallet. Officers soon located all three suspects and arrested Michael Byrne, 19, of Jamaica Plain, Steven Smith, 18, of Roslindale, a 16 year-old male from Jamaica Plain and charged all three with Unarmed Robbery. All three suspects were transported to Area E-18. During the booking process, one of the suspects, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, made an unprovoked utterance, stating, “Yah, I robbed that kid and I put the money in Steve’s shoe.” As a result of the utterance, officers searched the shoes belonging to the suspect, Steven Smith, and discovered an undisclosed amount of money. When asked to explain why he had money in his shoe, the suspect offered no explanation.
WRONG QUESTION TO ASK
At about 12:25am, on Thursday, September 27, 2007, officers from Area D-4 (South End) were on patrol in the area of Tremont & Berkeley Streets when they observed a white male run into the middle of the street and smack the passenger side mirror on the police cruiser. As a result of the suspect’s actions, officers stopped the cruiser in order to speak to the suspect. When officers asked the suspect to provide his name, the suspect, with fists clinched, ran towards the officers, yelling, “What’s your name?” Officers then arrested John Glennon, 29, of Boston and charged him with Disorderly Conduct.
NO TRESPASSING SIGN LEADS TO GUN ARREST
At about 3:45pm, on Thursday, September 27, 2007, officers from Area C Neighborhood Drug Unit (Dorchester) observed a number of individuals hanging in front of 376 Centre Street in Dorchester. Officers further observed that the location was clearly marked with ‘No Trespassing’ signage. When asked if they lived at the location, all of those being detained stated, “No.” When officers asked to see identification, one of the suspects fled. While pursuing the suspect on foot, officers observed the suspect discard a black object. The discarded object later turned out to be a black firearm. Officers then located and arrested Marcus Sullivan, 19, of Dorchester and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition. The suspect was transported to Area C-11 for booking. During the booking process, the suspect was allowed one phone call. During the call, the suspect was heard saying, “I just got arrested for a gun .. I was told to hold it and like an idiot I did”
