On Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at approximately 12:40pm officers performing a paid detail at Dudley and Alexander Streets assisted with an on-site arrest for violations of Auto Laws and Firearms Violations. Officers heard a broadcast for a person shot at the corner of Dearborn and Dudley Streets. The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A description of the suspects was broadcast as three black males in a blue four-door sedan heading down Eustis Street towards Hampden Street.Minutes later, a vehicle matching this description drove past with all three occupants turning to watch the officers, not paying attention to the road, and nearly getting into an accident. As officers approached the vehicle, the occupants were acting suspiciously, as if they were trying to conceal something. While questioning the driver, a rear passenger dropped a plastic bag to the floor of the vehicle, which landed with a thud. Officers then noticed a spent shell casing on the backseat. At this time, all three suspects were placed in handcuffs.
Shawn Scott, 26, of Dorchester and James Campbell, 24, of Roxbury, were charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Numbers. Jason Campbell, 24, of Roxbury, was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Numbers, and Operating after Revocation of Suspension of License.
Officers did recover the firearm hidden in the plastic bag along with ammunition and ballistic evidence.
