Search Warrant Yields Several Arrests, Recovered Firearms and NarcoticsLast night at 5:20pm, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) and members of the A-1 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit reported to 89 Dunstable Street in Charlestown to execute a search warrant. Upon arrival, Animal Control officers were dispatched due to an unlicensed pit bull being kept on the premises. After the dog was secured and removed from the house for safety reasons, officers began to investigate the residence in accordance with the search warrant.
While executing the search warrant, officers observed a metallic-type reflective paneling on the walls, heat ventilation machines, fluorescent lighting, and plant food. Such items are designed and utilized for the illegal growth and cultivation of marijuana. In addition, the following items were also recovered from the house: drug paraphernalia, plastic bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a quantity of what is believed to be oxycontin and ecstasy pills, a plastic bag believed to contain PCP, and several unmarked prescription bottles containing pills believed to be Xanax, Klonopin, and Oxycodone. In addition officers recovered two firearms, a bayonet, a double-edged knife, a metal sign saying “DANGER: Many Illegal Activities In Progress Enter At Your Own Risk” and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Among those arrested were John Collier, 20, of Everett for Trespassing. Brent Awbrey, 18, Stephen Awbrey, 22, both of Charlestown were arrested and charged with Possession of Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute within School Zone, Possession of Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute within School Zone, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Elizabeth Awbrey, 40, of Charlestown, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute within School Zone and Unlawful Possession of Firearm.

Yesterday at 11:40am, officers from District D-11 (Dorchester) responded to a reported larceny that had occurred at Dorchester District Courthouse. The victim reported that she had momentarily left her cell phone unattended on the front desk while assisting two individuals. When she returned, only one of the individuals remained and her cell phone had disappeared. The victim stated that she later received a phone call from her cousin who had called the missing cell phone and spoken to a male who said, “In order to get your phone back, it will cost you forty dollars.” The victim arranged to meet the victim at School Street to complete the transaction. Police officers responded instead, and they observed a black male meeting the description of the suspect and speaking on a cell phone. An undercover officer approached the suspect and informed him he was there to purchase the phone from him. Unaware he was dealing with police, the suspect called the victim to verify the man was her friend. Nasir Osman, 47, of Dorchester sold the phone to the officer and was consequently arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property over $250.
Vigilant Officers Locate and Apprehend Assault Suspect
Just after midnight this morning, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston) responded to a reported Assault and Battery by Tremont Street and Avery Street. Upon arrival, the victim approached the officer and stated, “I have been robbed of my cell phone!” The victim was visibly upset and holding a broken gold chain in her hands. She described the suspect as a thin, black male in his late thirties wearing a long white tee shirt that was ripped. She reported the man approached her while she was speaking on her phone and taking a drink from a water fountain. He stole her cell phone from her hands and assaulted her. A description of the suspect was broadcasted and a search of the area resulted in the suspect being located crossing Tremont Street and Stewart Street. After officers located the missing cell phone in the suspect’s pocket, the victim positively identified the man as her assailant. Jered Jones, 26, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery and Assault and Battery.

Last night at 10:36pm, detectives from District C-11 (Dorchester) were patrolling Cameron Street, an area that has been experiencing firearm-related concerns, when they noticed a suspicious individual crossing the street. After glancing at the unmarked police car the officers were seated in, the suspect grabbed an object under his shirt and began to flee. Believing the suspect to be in possession of a firearm, officers began a foot pursuit. Officers then observed a firearm in the suspect’s hand. The suspect attempted to discard the weapon by throwing it over the roof of a nearby building. Officers were soon able to apprehend the suspect. The area was secured and a search for the weapon proved successful. Steve Depina, 20, of Cambridge was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Trespassing, and Buying, Receiving, or Concealing Stolen Goods.
