On March 30, 2007 at approximately 11:23 pm, vigilant officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to an on-sight incident at Dorchester Avenue and Howes Street.Officers heard a screaming female and witnessed a male attempting to fend off an animal attack. The unleashed Rottweiler, which has a recent history of attack, was assailing a male victim as he held a small dog off the ground by its leash attempting to keep the small dog out of reach from the attacking animal.
Officers activated their emergency equipment attempting to distract the attacking animal and free the two victims and their small dogs. The Rottweiler then turned his attention towards the officers and lounged at one of them attempting to attack. At that time, the officer was forced to discharge his department firearm, which fatally wounded the Rottweiler.
The two small dogs were injured in the attack and were taken to Angel Memorial Hospital.
Detectives from the Firearm Discharge Investigation Team will investigate this incident.
