Drunk Driver Brought to a Stop by Bicycle Tactical UnitAbout 11:35am, on Monday, February 12, 2007, officers from the Tactical Bike Unit, observed a motor vehicle reversing the wrong way down a one-way street on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury. Officers then watched the operator of the vehicle throw what appeared to be a plastic bag out of the driver side window. Officers then conducted a motor vehicle stop. When officers approached the driver side window of the motor vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the car. Officers then asked the operator of the car if he had had anything to drink. To which, the operator replied, “I had 4 beers.” Officers further observed and noted that the operator had bloodshot, watery eyes, and slurred speech. Field sobriety tests were then administered to the operator of the motor vehicle. The operator was unable to successfully perform the tests given to him, including repeating the alphabet, after numerous tries and was placed under arrest. Suspect, Russell D. Melvin, 51, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Littering from a Motor Vehicle.
Wrong Car…Wrong Time
About 2:30pm, on Monday, February 12, 2007, members of the Governor’s Auto Task Force (The Task Force is comprised of officers from both the Boston Police & State Police Departments) began tracking a LoJack signal near Ruthven Street in Dorchester. Officers then located the stolen motor vehicle parked and unattended in the area. A short time later, the suspect, Keita Hassan Freeman, 35, of Dorchester was observed walking towards the stolen motor vehicle. When Freeman proceeded to enter the car and start it up, he was arrested and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Tactical Bicycle Unit Rides In on Drug Deal
At approximately 6:52pm yesterday, officers from the Boston Police Tactical Bicycle Unit arrested suspects, LaBaron S. Jones, 38, of Roxbury and Floyd Thompson, 61, of Lynn and charged them with Possession of Class B, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs within 1000” of a School Zone.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Eustis St. and Dearborn St. in Roxbury when they observed two individuals huddled near a vehicle engaged in a hand to hand exchange. Officers, based on training and experience, believed that they had observed a drug transaction. Officers approached the two individuals to further investigate when one of them threw an object to the ground. Officers examined this item and formed the opinion that it was crack cocaine, and placed both suspects in custody. Officers, after placing suspects in custody, recovered money from one of the suspects, a crack pipe, and additional drugs close to where the suspects had originally been observed.
Not So Bright Whiz Kid
About 8:10pm, on Monday, February 12, 2007, officers from District D-4 observed an individual walking towards the D-4 police station. Officers further observed this individual pointing his finger toward the station. Officers looked in the direction pointed by the passerby and observed suspect, James McDermott, proceed to drop his pants and urinate on the front of the police station. James M. McDermott, 45, of South Boston was then arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure.
