Boston Police detectives are investigating a shooting, which claimed the life of a thirteen-year-old boy. His death marks the second homicide of 2007.On January 12, 2006, at approximately 7:12 pm, officers from District 13 responded to a radio call for shots fired at 940 Parker Street in Jamaica Plain. On arrival, officers observed a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he later died. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was shot on Horan Way and then fled to the area of 940 Parker Street in the rear of the Jackson Square MBTA station.
The victim has been identified as Luis Gerena, 13, of Jamaica Plain.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “This is the third incident in three weeks involving the shooting death of a young teen. The prevalence of firearms combined with the unabated willingness to use them is a troubling cultural trend that poses a threat to the fabric of our community.” Commissioner Davis added, “As a parent and as a member of law enforcement, this tragic act is a clear indicator that together we must work closely with parents and community members to bring an end to senseless violence. On behalf of the department, I would like to express our condolences to Luis’s family and friends during this difficult time. I would also like to thank the Gerena family for their ongoing cooperation and assistance with this investigation.”
