Governor’s Auto Theft Strike Force Arrests Car ThiefOfficers from the Governor’s Auto Theft Strike Force (GATSF) (which is comprised of Masachusetts State Police Officers, Boston Police Officers and officers from several other local police departments), yesterday around 10:30am, arrested Juan Perez, 39, of Dorchester and charged him with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
GATSF were notified by District 2 officers of a stolen car parked on Maple Street, and set up surveillance on that car. Officers from the GATSF a short time later observed the suspect enter the car using a set of keys. Officers were able to converge on the suspect, after he entered and started driving the car. The suspect was placed under arrest without incident and several car keys recovered from the ignition. The recovered keys were shaved to fit into Acura, Honda and Toyota cars and as such suspect charged with Possession of Burglarious tools.
Operator of Stolen Car Feigns Ignorance About Car’s Stolen Status
Officers from District 2, yesterday around 5:10am, observed a stolen motor vehicle at the intersection of Quincy St. and Columbia Rd. Officers followed this stolen motor vehicle and initiated a successful traffic stop at the intersection of Howard Ave. and Cunningham St. There, officers informed the operator that she was operating a stolen motor vehicle and she appeared to be very surprised stating that she believed that the vehicle belonged to an acquaintance. Further investigation revealed the operator’s license was expired, and the motor vehicle uninsured and unregistered. The operator, Tiana Clark, 23, of Everett was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed, and Operating an Uninsured and Unregistered Motor Vehicle.
Traffic Stop Results in Drugs and Currency Seized
Yesterday around 10:30pm, officers from District 13 attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a motor vehicle at the intersection of Heath St. and Columbus Ave. after observing a traffic violation. The suspect motor vehicle initially failed to stop for officers with lights and sirens activated. The suspect motor vehicle was finally stopped at the intersection of New Heath St and Columbus Ave. Officers initially noticed the passenger making movements toward the center console as they approached. Officers were immediately assaulted with a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car as they spoke to the occupants. Officers questioned occupants as to overwhelming smell of marijuana emanating from the car and the passenger produced a plastic of marijuana from his front right jacket pocket, and then another larger bag from his left inside jacket pocket. During further investigation, officers determined that the operator was driving without being properly licensed. The driver, Franklin Breton, 26, of Homestead, Florida was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed, Failure to Stop for Police and Conspiracy to Distribute Class D for the additional drugs located inside the car. The passenger, Clayton Rapoza, 29, of Boston was arrested and charged with two outstanding warrants for Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, School Zone Violation of the Drug Laws, True Name Violation for providing a false name to officers. Officers recovered and seized two cell phones from the suspects as well as close to $1,000. in US Currency.
