DAILY INCIDENTS FOR DECEMBER 24, 2006

Officer Assaulted Trying to Break Up Bar FightOfficers from District 4, yesterday about 12:49am, responded to a disturbance outside the “Vox Populi” restaurant located at 759 Boylston St. While there, officers’ presence was requested inside that location for another disturbance. Inside, officers observed a fight break out in which one individual struck another several times with a glass bottle. An officer quickly addressed this fight by restraining the assailant. The officer, while restraining the assailant with the bottle, was struck about the head by an unknown person. The suspect who started the fight, Nerman Zilic, 22, of Revere, was arrested and charged Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon. The assaulted officer suffered minor abrasions and swelling from this incident.
Robbery Victim Leads Officers to Suspect
Yesterday at approximately 8:20am, officers from District 5 responded to 3952 Washington St. in Roslindale for a man yelling. There, officers spoke to the man yelling who turned out to be the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that he was walking up Washington St. when he when the suspect approached him, attempted to grab his gold necklace off of his neck, breaking it but getting away only with the pendant. The suspect then fled inside the above-mentioned location. The victim followed the suspect and demanded his property at which point the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded that he leave. The victim waited on scene for officers to arrive and directed officers to the suspect. Suspect, Robert Nelson, 46, of Roslindale was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery and assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
Elderly Robbery Victim Foils Robbery Attempt
About 8:59pm yesterday, officers from District 1 responded to a radio call to assist New England Medical Center with a robbery suspect.
While en route, officers were advised that other responding units had an individual matching the suspect description stopped on Warrenton Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the 70 year old victim who reported that the suspect approached her near the Oak St./Tremont St. MBTA station, demanded her bag and grabbed it from her. The victim reported that she grabbed her handbag back from the suspect at which time he fled the scene. The victim successfully identified suspect, Robert Stern, 46, of Boston who was placed under arrest and charged with Attempted Unarmed Robbery. During the booking search, officers located several other items belonging to other individuals, and the suspect was charged accordingly. The victim was not hurt during this robbery attempt.
