Alert Officers Placed Two Suspects Under Arrest:One for a Gun, The Other for Drugs
Yesterday around 6:37pm officers from the Youth Violence Strike force arrested Messiah A. Franklin, 18, of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Additionally, officers arrested Carlos Ashby, 21, of Mattapan and charged him with Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone.
Officers were patrolling in the area of Harmon St. in Mattapan when they observed several individuals standing in front of 43 Harmon St. As officers approached this group, one of them took off running, clutching the right side of his waist. Officers followed suspect, Franklin, to a fence where they observed him remove something from his waist and throw it over the fence. Officers subsequently recovered a loaded firearm in the same location where suspect, Franklin, had been seen throwing the item thrown from his waist.
Other officers remaining on scene also apprehended suspect, Ashby, who turned around and ran when he observed officers. Suspect, Ashby, was also observed throwing an object while fleeing from officers. Search of that area resulted in officers finding two bags of marijuana. Suspect, Ashby, was also found to have additional marijuana on his person during the booking search.
Armed Robbery Suspect Asks for Cigarette But Demands Money
At approximately 12:08am today officers from District 1 responded to the intersection of Tremont St. and Stuart St. for an armed robbery in progress. On arrival, officers met with the victim who directed officers to the suspects who were walking down the street. Officers located the one suspect who was positively identified by the victim. The victim reported that the suspect, accompanied by two other individuals, approached him and asked him for a cigarette. The victim further reported that as he took out the cigarettes, his money became visible, and the suspects surrounded him and demanded his money. The victim initially refused but one of the suspects produced a knife threatening him at which point his money was taken. The victim then attempted to flee but was chased and assaulted by the apprehended suspect. Suspect, Lamar Hunt, 27, of Lynn was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. The other suspects could not be located.
Out of State Stolen Car Recovered in Boston
This morning around 2:38am officers from District 2 observed a motor vehicle stopped at the red light on Mount Pleasant St. and Dudley St. with both front doors open. As the light turned green, officers further observed an unknown individual jump into the front street and continue driving on Dudley St. Officers queried the plate and learned that the car had been reported stolen in North Carolina. A motor vehicle stop was conducted at which time the operator stated to officers that he had no license but that the owner of the car was seated in the back seat. During the officers’ investigation they recognized the alleged owner of the car as a person wanted in North Carolina for several counts of Felony Auto Theft, and Breaking and Entering. The operator of the car, Timothy Taylor, 35, of Boston was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle after Revocation or Suspension of License, and the passenger, Anthony McKeithan, 26, of Malden was arrested on the outstanding warrants out of North Carolina and additionally charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
